The Lower Ordovician sub-village in western Hubei and the Red Garden produce a large number of Calathium fossils because they have the following characteristics: (1) They are characterized by pyramids or horns and cups, with their growth directions being tapered downward, open ends (2) a porous double-walled body wall with an annular wall space therebetween; (3) an absence of a central shaft with an open central cavity that functions approximately as a water outlet opening; (4) Developed root or nubby wall structure, the function of anchoring, winding or balance. That should be a lower level of filter-feeding animals, may have some affinity with ancient beast animals, should not be attributed to algae.
