2010年11月,山西省考古研究所对兴县刘家峁遗址进行抢救性考古发掘。刘家峁遗址包含有仰韶晚期和东周时期的文化遗存。仰韶文化晚期遗存的发现,填补了晋西北新石器时代遗存文化谱系的缺环,有利于加深对史前时期晋、陕、蒙间文化传播、交流通道的认识和了解;东周遗存的发现对于进一步了解晋文化的分布范围及其影响有重要意义。
