Out of downtown Putian, Fujian Province, about 30 km southeast to reach the hometown of Matsu Putian Mei Island. Mazu was originally a young woman in Song dynasty who was respected as “goddess of sea” by the local people after she died because of her knowledge of the weather, good medical practice, good boat ride, poverty relief and aid to the poor. For a long time, frontier officers and men here have guarded the homeland of “Goddess of Sea Peace” and Matsu day and night to witness the constant love between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and set up a bridge of communication between the two sides of the Strait.
