The 5th International Conference on Natural and Man-made Disasters was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province from August 30 to September 3, 1993. More than 160 experts from nearly 30 countries and regions gathered to discuss the occurrence and development of natural and man-made disasters, exchange experience in disaster reduction and discuss disaster prevention methods and measures. The conference was co-sponsored by the CAS Natural Disaster Research Committee and the International Association for Natural Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and hosted by the Qingdao Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
