A new wavelength stabilization technique for packet switching is demonstrated. This technique stabilizes the long-term wavelength drift of the transmitter, whereas the use of a monitor channel in a WDM network tends to stabilize short-term drift and exchange-induced wavelength drift. The properties of accuracy, capture range and wavelength stabilization schemes are under study. Long-term wavelength stabilization of DBR lasers shows that it is suitable for WDM networks with channel spacings no greater than 30 GHz.
