郭沫若早年曾服膺西方表现主义文艺思潮，并受其深刻影响。究其原因，一是表现主义在欧美各国的广泛传播；二是表现主义的价值观、审美观与郭沫若的社会政治理想和美学思想颇多相似之处。但郭沫若并不是一个表现主义作家，他的思想和创作与表现主义仍有很明显的区别。不管是在作品的主题意识，还是在所运用的创作方法等方面，都不难发现两者之间的差异。郭沫若根据本国的现实需要，择取表现主义的某些观点为我所用，并非对表现主义全面认同。
In his early years, Guo Moruo served as the Western expressionist literary trend and was deeply influenced by it. The reason is that expressionism spread widely in Europe and the United States. Second, there are many similarities between the values and aesthetics of expressionism and Guo Moruo’s social and political ideals and aesthetic thoughts. However, Guo Moruo is not a expressionist writer, and his thinking and creation and expressionism still have a clear distinction. Whether it is in the theme of the work, or in the use of creative methods, are not difficult to find the difference between the two. According to the actual needs of his country, Guo Moruo used some of the ideas of expressionism for what he used, not for the full acceptance of expressionism.
