Lexical Pragmatics,established at the late 20th century in the west,is a new branch of linguistics.Based on the theoretical framework of Lexical Pragmatics,this paper will analyze the new requirements for English vocabulary teaching under the instructions of The New National English Curriculum and the current situation of English vocabulary teaching so as to clarify the necessity to cultivate students’lexical pragmatic awareness.As a result,learners can get some implications from it:English vocabulary teaching should emphasize on multiple pragmatics dimensions such as the pragmatic knowledge of lexical meaning,pragmatic competence and contextual constraints,etc.but not just on its form or semantic combination.
