住房互换难是我国各大城市普遍存在的问题,大型企业也是如此。在职工现有住房的基础上,通过互换,适当改善居住环境和解决某些困难,具有很现实的意义。武钢现有职工十余万人、数万套住房,分布在武汉三镇,涉及公司自管和城市公管两大系统,每年都有上千户职工要求换房,因而住房互换问题更多,困难更大。过去在人工换房形式下,查找对象困难,手续繁杂,管理繁锁,使一些职工急需解决的困难得不到及时解决,影响了生活,不利于生产。
