东风4型机车常因空压机降压起动电阻RY烧红引起电气火灾。本文介绍的TPZ9装置用于辅助发电机（简称辅机）在正常发电工况下，通过控制辅机的励磁电流，以实现对辅机的稳压和空压机的软起动控制；GDF装置用于在固定发电工况下通过改变辅机励磁回路电阻值的大小，实现空压机的软起动。经过7个铁路局几十个机务段近4年的实际使用证明，这两种装置可彻底消除困RY烧红引起的电气火灾，且性能可靠，值得在全路推广使用。
