2004年2月6日,省委书记白克明看到省会报纸上刊登的平山县和武邑县两名儿童因贫困而无法继续获得医治、生命垂危的消息后,非常牵挂,当即给省妇联主席曹素英打电话,要求省妇联详细了解两名病危儿童的情况,采取有效措施予以救助。他满含深情地说:“我们不能让孩子因为没钱治病而失去幼小的生命!”
