“流丽悠远,出乎三腔之上”的昆山腔,简称昆腔,它始于元代末年的昆山,是南曲的一个支派。昆山腔在明代万历之前,还只是流行于吴中的“小集南唱”的清曲。昆山腔的变革发展是在嘉靖、隆庆年间,江西豫章(南昌)人魏良辅流寓太仓南关(元代时昆山所辖)。魏良辅原是个北曲清唱家,到吴中后,又致力于南曲。他认为当时的一些南曲唱腔“率平直无意致”(行腔简单,或节奏拖沓),于
