Although secreted IgA is known to prevent the adhesion of microorganisms to mucosal surfaces, antigen-specific secreted IgA has not previously been demonstrated to mediate cytotoxicity upon direct interaction with antigen. This article reports the authors purify anti-Shigella lipopolysaccharide (LPS) IgG and secretory IgA from hyperimmune serum and from immunized intestinal secretions.
