At any time, seven or eight different types of bogie frames are in production at the Neuhausen Rhine Falls plant in SIG. In addition to its products being exported to Swiss Railways, the company’s products have provided the framework to Finland, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands in recent months. Each client requires major changes to be made on the basis of a basic bogie. This basic bogie was originally developed for the SBB MKIV bus in the early 1980s. Quality assurance is not new to SIG, but the entire process is being formalized to meet the modern needs of our customers. Closely related to this process is the need to address the sometimes conflicting or inappropriate national standards adopted by different railway companies.
