陈宝琛(1848～1935),字伯潜,号弢庵、橘隐,晚号听水老人、沧趣老人。闽县人。同治七年(1868)进士,累官至内阁学士。与宝廷、张佩纶、张之洞以直谏有声天下,时号为清流。光绪十一年(1885),以荐人失察降级归里。宣统元年(1909),复原官。三年(1911),派毓庆宫授读,兼充弼德院顾问大臣、实录馆副总裁。民国五年(1916),授太保。十年(1921),晋太傅。二十四年(1935),卒於京寓。追赠太师谥文忠。平生工诗文,有《沧趣楼诗集》、《听水斋词》、《沧趣楼文存》、《沧趣楼律赋》、《陈文忠公奏议》等。本辑所刊陈宝琛致张之洞函札旧为曹经沅所藏(参见黄濬《花随人圣盒摭忆》),今藏上海图书馆,其中若干首为其谪居乡里时所作,以前学者于此时期陈氏情况多语焉未详,此批书函可补其生平行实之缺,弥足珍贵。

This collection of books by Chen Baochen to Zhang Zhidong letter for the old collection by Cao Jingyuan (see Huang Jun “flower with people San Li Qing”), now possession of the Shanghai Library, including a number of the first for their hometown made when the former scholars at Chen’s situation during this period did not elaborate, this batch of letters can make up for their lack of life in fact, very valuable.
