“忽如一夜春风来,千树万树梨花开”。全世界关注的目光都聚焦中国,聚焦中国北京。中国共产党第十六次全国代表大会于11月14日在北京胜利闭慕。 此次大会通过了江泽民所作的政治报告,以及中纪委报告和新党章,并选举产生了新一届中央委员会。有关人士指出,包括十六届一中全会在内,会期只有短短8天。会议如此之紧凑,并顺利完成如此重大议题和新老交替任务,纵观历届党代会,这是不多见的。难怪政治观察家们用富有才情和生动形象的语言表述:十六大“为中国开启世纪之门”。

The 16th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party closed with victory in Beijing on November 14. The congress adopted a political report made by Jiang Zemin, the report of the Central Discipline Inspection Commission and the new party constitution, and the election of the new Central Committee. Officials pointed out that the duration of the plenary session, including the first plenary session of the 16th CPC Central Committee, was as short as eight days. It is rare for the meeting to be so compact and to successfully accomplish such a major issue as well as the alternation of old and new tasks smoothly. No wonder political observers use the language of talented and vivid expression: the 16th CPC National Congress “opened the door of the century for China.”
