苏州城南有一座横跨运河的大桥谓之“长桥”。围绕这座大桥周边的15.8平方公里,便是现在的长桥街道行政辖区,也是现在的苏州市吴中区区政府的所在地。长桥街道是随着吴县市撤市建区(吴县市撤销后分别设吴中区、相城区)后设立的,原为长桥镇,其一部分已划归省级吴中经济开发区;现有的15.8平方公里是原长桥镇的核心区域。长桥改街道后仍保留原镇级建制机构,经济、财政等独立运行。
There is a bridge across the canal in the south of Suzhou called “Long Bridge”. Surrounding this bridge around the 15.8 square kilometers, it is now the Longqiao Street administrative area, is now the seat of Wuzhong District, Suzhou City Government. Changqiao Street was set up following the demolition of Wuxian City (Wuzhong City, respectively, after the revocation of Wuzhong District, Xiangcheng District), formerly known as Changqiao, a part of which has been classified as provincial Wuzhong Economic Development Zone; Some 15.8 square kilometers is the core area of the original town of Changqiao. After the bridge changed to the streets, the original town-level institutions are still preserved, and the economy, finance and other independent operations run.
