卫天霖,是我国著名的油画艺术家,美术教育家.今年是这位艺术家逝世20周年,明年是他诞辰100周年纪念.卫天霖1898年生于山西汾阳,出身于一个知识分子家庭,从幼年时起卫天需就对绘画和民间艺术具有浓厚兴趣,青少年时期又受到了良好教育.卫天霖于1920年赴日本留学,入川端美术专科学校,后入东京美术专科学校,师从日本留法画家滕岛武二.1926年以第一名成绩毕业,并留校做两年研究员.1928年归国.卫天霖终生从事艺术教育工作,1928年起曾在北平孔德学校、北平艺专、华北大学艺术学院等院校任教务长、教授等职.1949年任北京师范大学美术工艺系教授、系主任,1955年后任北京艺术师范学院和北京艺术学院教授、副院长,1964年直至1977年逝世前任中央工艺美术学院教授.这位为艺术教育贡献了毕生心血的学者,深受美术界、教育界的尊敬与推重和学生的崇敬与爱戴.
