Selective arterial infusion of chemotherapeutic drugs and selective arterial embolization are two important methods for the treatment of substantial malignant tumors. However, despite the considerable progress in anti-tumor drugs in recent years, selective arterial infusion chemotherapy still cannot solve the problems of rapid metabolism, excretion, and toxic side effects on local tissue cells. In the 1970s, selective tumors for the treatment of arterial embolization have achieved considerable clinical success. Because of solid or large embolic material, such as gelatin sponges, stainless steel rings, and autologous coagulation, catheters are not easily administered. And these embolization methods are generally embolized in the larger arteries or branches, easy to form collateral circulation to regain blood supply to the tumor tissue, the treatment effect is still not satisfactory. In the past decade, a large number of experimental studies and clinical practices have been conducted in the research of new drug formulations, namely drug-directed systems.
