敦煌社邑文书反映了丰富的民间文书档案工作情况:社条、转帖、社文、社历、社状牒等多种文书种类;以社司、录事、社长、社官为文书撰制机构和人员;文书撰制、文书办理、档案收藏和保护等文书档案工作制度。这些文书档案工作情况一定程度上填补民间文书档案工作内容的空白,其中的违章处罚制度对当今具有启示和借鉴作用。另外,文书档案工作制度的完善是民间组织成熟的重要标志,古代公文对敦煌社邑文书具有一定的影响。
