Since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, township and town enterprises in Conghua County have made great progress. By 1986, the entire county had 5 498 township and village enterprises, of which 1158 were collectively run and 4 340 run individually. In 1986, the total rural social output of the county was 285.92 million yuan, while the total income of township and town enterprises reached 11 054 million. The rise of township and village enterprises has increased the accumulation of funds in rural areas, promoted the rational changes of rural industrial structure, labor force structure and economic structure, and promoted the improvement of rural technical management and the prosperity of commodity markets.
