桂糖16号是由广西壮族自治区甘蔗研究所以粤糖59-65为母本、崖城72-399为父本育成的甘蔗品种。1999年通过国家农作物品种审定委员会审定。 该品种植株高,较直立,前、中期生长快,中至中大茎,蔗茎较均匀,空心小,节间圆筒形,较长。无芽沟或不明显。芽呈圆形,芽基平叶痕,芽尖未达或刚达生长带,芽翼着生于芽的中上部。生长带明显,呈淡黄色。叶鞘紫红色,有白色蜡粉,鞘背有少量57号毛群,无外叶
