以往对于宋代与阿拉伯在天文学方面的交往,几乎一无所知。今从《怀宁马氏宗谱》载西域人马依泽来华参与编撰《应天历》和其父子均任司天监负责人一事得到启发,发现宋初三部历法均载有星期制度的算法;《武经总要》又有十二宫入宫日期的推算方法。这些在中国都是首次出现,应与马依泽父子的工作有关。又对宋初天文机构人事档案的考察证实,马依泽父子确曾长期担任过司天监负责人的职务。
