John Weaver eager to find a single portable device that can be equipped with its entire mobile workforce, which should be compact, lightweight and have strong communications capabilities. Unfortunately, as vice president of information technology at the New York-based big media conglomerate Elektra Entertainment Group, he still has not found his ideal device. So, like so many other IT managers, he had to offer field sales teams a seemingly unlimited range of mobile devices, including cell phones, pagers, notebook PCs, and 3Com’s PalmPilot PDA.
