There are usually two basic opinions when it comes to discussing autoimmunity, one is self-tolerance and the other is genetic. About tolerance, was originally considered a learning process. The induction and maintenance of tolerance require the presence of antigens and there is a minimal affinity between the tolerogen and the corresponding cellular receptors. The process of tolerance of self antigens should begin early in the individual. B cells are now known to be more resistant than newborns to adulthood, but B cells are not always tolerated at birth, and only those B cells that have been exposed to a certain concentration of autoantigen during the neonatal period are resistant.
