Objective To investigate the influence of health education on medication adherence in patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 300 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were diagnosed as type 2 diabetes from March 2010 to March 2012 were randomly divided into intervention group and control group with 150 cases each. The control group received routine regular follow-up. The intervention group was followed up routine conventional follow- To carry out targeted diabetes health education. Intervention monitoring time was 6 months, analysis of medication adherence of two groups of patients. Measurement data using t test, count data using χ2 test, P <0.05 for the difference was statistically significant. Results Before intervention, the compliance rate of medication in 300 diabetic patients was 44.33%. There was significant difference in medication compliance between patients with different ages, educational level, disease knowledge, drug knowledge, adverse drug reaction and medical payment (all P <0.05). After six months of health education, the medication compliance of the intervention group was significantly higher than that of the control group. The medication compliance rate was 88.67% in the intervention group and 48.67% in the control group, with significant difference between the two groups (P <0.05). Conclusion Health education can improve medication adherence of diabetic patients, which is worth popularizing and applying.
