This article describes the 12GHz direct frequency division PLL. The PLL divides the output frequency and compares it to a lower reference frequency. The oscillator and divider circuit is made using microwave hybrid integration technology. This article also analyzes its noise performance in detail and reports the measurement results. The PLL can be used as a local oscillator for frequency synthesizers in digital radios, radars and satellite communications equipment.
