In Japan, many people advise me not to come here to accept the Jerusalem Literature Prize. Someone even warned me that if I persevered, they would boycott my novel jointly. The main reason, of course, is the intense fighting that is taking place in Gaza. According to a UN survey, more than 1,000 people have died in the blockaded Gaza Strip, many of them defenseless civilians, children and the elderly. After receiving the award notice, I kept asking myself: Is it correct to accept the Prize for Literature at this time in Jerusalem? Does this make people think I support the conflict
