In recent decades, the Federal Republic of Germany has greatly strengthened its position in the world imperialist system. At present, the economic power of the Federal Republic of Germany, by its size, ranks third among the capitalist countries and its gross national product ranks second only to the United States and Japan. The great growth of the economic potential of West Germany is due firstly to accelerating the development of industry, the key sector of the economy. In the meantime, the Federal Republic of Germany has continuously expanded and deepened its participation in the international division of labor so that it will continue to consolidate and build closer ties with the world market
