Objective To investigate the characteristics of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated with depression of lower extremity vascular disease and to explore the effect of antidepressant therapy on patients. Methods Seventy-two patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and depression with lower extremity vascular disease who were admitted to the hospital from January 2015 to January 2017 were selected. The patients were randomly divided into two groups, observation group 36 cases, control group 36 cases. In the control group, baseline treatment was used. On the basis of this observation group, antidepressant treatment was taken. Comparisons were made between the two groups of patients with lower extremity vascular disease progression and glucose metabolism. Results The progress rate of lower extremity vascular disease in treatment group (11.11%) was lower than that in control group (30.56%) (P <0.05). After treatment, the indexes of FBG, 2 hPBG and HbA1c in both groups were significantly decreased P <0.05). Compared with the control group, the indexes in the observation group decreased more significantly (P <0.05). Conclusion Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and depression with lower extremity vascular disease should take active antidepressant therapy to control the progression of the disease and improve their blood glucose level.
