Objective To investigate the changes of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells in the course of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and its relationship with PD. Methods Forty rats were randomly divided into sham-operation group (n = 6) and PD group (n = 34). The expression of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells and TGF-β1 in peripheral blood of rats were measured once a week for 3 consecutive weeks. Results The content of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells and the expression of TGF-β1 in PD group were significantly increased with time (P <0.01). There was no significant difference in sham operation group at each time point. Conclusions The levels of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells and the expression of TGF-β1 in different stages of PD are dynamically changing, suggesting that they are involved in the pathological development of PD. The expression of TGF-β1 is positively correlated with the expression of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells , Suggesting that TGF-β1 may induce the expression of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells after PD.
