一九六一年八月,屯子里熬碱的多了,俺就得到街里去卖碱。第一次背了三个碱坨三十四斤碱,到四道街南头就卖了,一斤碱卖八毛钱。二儿子五个月,在家等着吃奶,俺想早点儿回家。去的时候俺带着粮本和面袋,在粮店排队买了二十五斤玉米面,一斤才四分五。背着粮食往家走,越算账越高兴,一路上高兴得想唱,可出汗出得口渴,唱不出来了。丈夫听说了不但不高兴,还埋怨俺:“别人一斤碱卖一块钱,你少卖多少钱你知道不?你少卖的钱,用粮本能买回一百多斤玉米面!”
