According to data from 85 factories (most of the country) engaged in the laser industry, research and sales of the U.S. laser industry in 1969 amounted to about 90 million U.S. dollars. This figure includes research and development costs for lasers, the price of the complete laser system at the factory, and the sales of components and accessories. Since this figure includes statistics for both product and system, it may be duplicates. In 1969, the cost of research and trial production was 30.6 million U.S. dollars, of which 60% was for gas lasers, 26% for solid-state lasers, 5% for semiconductor lasers and the other 9%. In the same year, system sales were about 28 million U.S. dollars.
