A survey conducted in Tianjin showed that the desire of laid-off women workers to start their businesses is becoming increasingly clear. Nearly 80% of the laid-off women surveyed are interested in founding small businesses, and 30% of them have basic operational skills. However, due to the generally lower level of education and the heavier family burden, there is heavy pressure on women’s entrepreneurship. In particular, there is insufficient market information, lack of modern marketing skills, technical training and management experience, and women often encounter more difficulties than men in establishing or expanding existing businesses. By the end of October 2000, Tianjin Women’s Entrepreneurship Center was officially launched as the first trial site for women’s entrepreneurship and employment in China. This is China’s first “incubator” in the field of science and technology. Its purpose is to support the re-employment of laid-off women.
