Following the success of the British SA80 (L85 / L86) rifle project, HK Corporation started the project of HK416 Enhanced Carbine. Aimed at some shortcomings exposed by active duty 5.56mm caliber guns in actual combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, the ambitious HK Company is trying to build a better-performance enhanced carbine to meet the needs of the military, especially to meet special operational conditions
