Introduction Dendrolimus punctatus Walker is a major pest of Pinus massoniana. At home and abroad, the population of Plutella xylostella has been studied in terms of quantity, forecast, chemical, biological and physical control, and a great deal of work has been done However, there are not many studies on the toxic effects of chemical agents on the overwintering Plutella and the physiological and biochemical data on larvae (Jiang Sanjun 1957; Zhao Shanhuan 1961; Zhao Shanhuan 1962; Cai Banghua 1964). The prevalence of overwintering pine caterpillars in many areas is large and reproductive among other generations. As for the overwintering pests are in a quiescent state, it will be of great significance if effective prevention and treatment can be carried out. The purpose of this article is to explore the possibility of using DDT to control Caterpillar dendrolimus during overwintering and to clarify the mechanism of action of the agent by some physiological and metabolic indexes of larvae.
