In the post-Soviet Russian drama literature, there is absolutely no precedent into the prosperous stage of historical culture and traditional classic reflection. The playwrights collectively review the classic, and rewrite, reconstruct, and deconstruct classical works, classic writers and even historical figures in an alternative way of writing. Among them, the contemporary Russian dramatist, who is representative of the subversive and innovative classics, is O’Bogaev. This article explores the ironic interpretation of historical figures and classics from Bogariev’s playbook, attempting to show that the popularity of this brand-new historical figure and cultural symbol outlines the Russians’ concept of subverting the classic, the game tradition, and denying the former values status quo.
