Nowadays, we are facing more and more serious juvenile myopia, mainly for two reasons: First, the popularity of electronic products, so that more and more children are becoming addicted; second, children often focus on schoolworks and ignore adequate outdoor activities. For the young friends of myopia, the glasses can be said to be the best choice. However, glasses also require great caution! If not, the consequences can be equivalent to "taking wrong pills".
Choose the glasses suiting yourself
Faced with an array of counter glasses, parents and children are often confused about how to choose a suitable pair? In fact, the choice of glasses fit themselves rather than being expensive. When choosing glasses, here are several tips:
We should firstly choose a formal mechanism optometry, for it ensures suitable glasses. For teenager friends under 18 years old, a dilated optometry is also needed to determine whether it is a true or false myopia.
Glasses vary according to ages. Relative young teenager should choose plastic resin spectacle rather than glassy ones, since the plastic lens is not fragile, hence safer for these kids lacking self-protection experience.
When selecting frame, we should generally base on the child's face to choose the right, safe, lightweight, durable frame, among which generally plate frame is better. Meanwhile, we should pay attention to the length of the mounting ears to increase the stability of the frame. Children are likely to move, so it is generally also accompanied by a chain hanging around their neck.
Medical optometry, with good eye habits
There are two ways of matching glasses, business and medical optometry. The difference is that the medical optometry intends not only to produce patients a clear sight, but also the eye care, so that patients can see clearly and comfortably with the glasses, even not tired after reading for a long time. While commercial optician optometry reaches conclusions after initial set of tests, not able to correct the patient's sight, and even causes it to continuous decline.
Medical optometry is a dynamic, multi-program clinical diagnostic process. During optometry, optometrist needs to know the history, general routine eye condition and general condition of body, as well as the daily life and study of the patient, which requires specialized optometric physician to make diagnosis. Glasses after diagnosis are based on the full range of patient conditions, able to correct and protect their sights. But at the same time, patients are also required to develop good eye habits to avoid decline. Will the glasses prevent sight from declining? Can the sight be corrected to normal levels? These are most concerned problems of patients with myopia
Wear it or not? Depending on the degrees
Myopia caused parents a lot of worries, among which the most difficult one is how to wear glasses? Some children choose to wear in class and not after class. So, should children wear glasses often or occasionally?
Answer of this question depends on the level of myopia and whether the clarity of sight will be influenced without glasses. Children with myopia should wear glasses often rather than occasionally except for resting time. Because wearing glasses has many benefits for children with myopia: in addition to vision correction, it can also alleviate eye fatigue, prevent proptosis, treat strabismus and amblyopia, etc. Otherwise, it may cause severe visual impairment and even myopia of higher level.
In many parents’ eyes, once wearing glasses, children will never get rid of them, which is a wrong recognition. Generally, children younger than 12 years old suffering from nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism should always wear glasses; teenagers suffering myopia or hyperopia above 100 degrees or astigmatism alone that is more than 75 degrees, as using eyes more frequently, eye ciliary muscle function is not stable hence getting tired easily. Either looking far or close, they are suggested to wear glasses often. But this does not mean that they will no longer get rid of them.
In fact, some children suffering from refractive error or not too high degree of hyperopia and astigmatism, when grew up, with the development of the eye and visual function, there is hope to completely take off the glasses; because after the children grow up later, the eye development of visual function has been improved, if myopia level is not too high and not feel discomfort without glasses, they can get rid of glasses from time to time; or wearing it when looking afar (such as: watching movies or sport games) ; for patients not too high in hyperopia level, if able to see clearly when looking to places far away while tired (such as eye soreness, astringent, paroxysmal blurred vision, etc.) to closer places, they can wear when looking close places while not when looking places in distance.
Teen Friends, please don’t underestimate glasses, which requires great caution! Once having a blurred vision, the best way is to go to a regular hospital for medical ophthalmology optometry examination. Protecting eyesight starts from ourselves. The latest research data shows an extra hour of outdoor activities can effectively reduce the probability of myopia. In order to protect our most valuable "window of the soul", why not go outdoors to nourish our eyes in spare time!
