URUNDA STYLE The URUNDA style district is located on the southern border of the Congo with Angola and Zambia, a name derived from the Lunda people who lived there since the 16th century. The art form of this style area has significantly affected the rest of Central Africa. Instead of carving wood, masks here are usually made of curved branches, bark or cloth, and finally painted or decorated with bitumen or wasp wax. Masks are used in ceremonies and rituals, the most important of which are used in the boy’s adult rituals.
