联邦德国铁路,简称联铁(下同),已有160年的历史,南北纵横,网络密布全国,与周边9个国家的铁路网相接,是欧洲铁路的重要枢纽,也是欧洲运输量最大的铁路网,铁路职工22.3万人。在1994年前,联铁一直由国家经营,属于国有企业。虽然联铁有其得天独厚的条件,但长期以来运营状况并不十分理想。从1935年到1993年的40年中共亏损67亿马克,其中1993年一年亏损就达16亿马克。
