本文作者卡托·罗姆布是一位匈牙利女翻译工作者。她从事外语工作多年,到过不少国家,出席过一系列国际会议。据介绍,卡托·罗姆布懂得十多种外语。其中英、俄、法、德四种语言运用自如;汉、日、西、意、波五种语言也颇有造诣,能进行口译;此外还能用好几种其它外语进行笔译。卡托·罗姆布写了一本名为《我怎样学习外语》的书,广泛介绍了自己学习和使用外语的经验和体会,并提出了许多有价值的意见和建议。译者认为,西方拼音文字国家的翻译工作者自学另一种拼音文字,其经验不一定完全适合我国自学者的情况,但作为借鉴和参考,了解其自学外语的经验,却也不无裨益。全书共分二十四章,本文是其中的第十七章。根据1978年莫斯科“进步”出版社出版的俄译本译出。
