Introduction The Bas Normand quarry, located in the Calcaire Carbonifere Formation of the Wexian Formation in the Ferques tectonic window, is composed of white limestone with dolomitic bands in the Boulonnais region, near Hydrequent, in north-western France. The Ferques window is one of several Paleozoic structural windows in the Mesozoic strata in the Boulonnais region (Fig. 1a). Its general geological features have been discussed by Riqaux et al. Recently, Ager and Wallace (1967a, b) present the latest insights into the geological features of Boul-onnais. Wallace (1969) details the Devonian rocks in the Ferques tectonic window
