In the end, the Tang Dynasty began to take the land and select talented people. Exam poetry does not test composition. This kind of exam is very strict. It uses five rhymes and six rhymes, that is, five words for each sentence, two rhymes, and twelve sentences for writing. This restriction bound the candidates at the time to too much death. Most of the written poems were of a formal style and contained nothing. However, there are others who dare to break through the box. If the poet ancestral only wrote four sentences in the exam, he would hand it in. This is the famous “Changnan Wang Yu Xue” poem. The four lines of the poem are: “The scenery of the end of the South is overcast, the clouds are snow-covered, Lin shows the dusk, and the city is growing cold.” This poem depicts a scene of the view of the Zhongnan Mountain after the snow, but only four sentences. Then the examiner asked the ancestral why he did not write twelve sentences of complete poetry. The ancestral ancestors only answered two words in a subtle way: “Italian.” (Deng Yaowu)
