Whether or not Salim should pay tribute to the king is essentially the question of whether the monks of the monarchy should surrender to the emperor unconditionally. This is a new issue of Buddhism that emerged only in a certain stage in the development of Chinese society. It involves a wide range of issues and has far-reaching implications. How to solve this problem directly determines the ways and means that the dynasties can take in handling other Buddhist affairs. The controversy between the state and the country around the issue in the Eastern Jin Dynasty was a double exploration of the relationship between Buddhism and politics from theory to practice by politicians and religious circles. Only when the Buddhist monks unconditionally submit to the emperor, should the Salmon Salute the king be fully resolved. After hundreds of years of repeated contests, political and Buddhist circles reached a consensus on resolving this issue. They not only finalized the status of Buddhism in the political life of feudal countries, but also set a reference model for solving the basic relationship between feudal countries and other religions and politics .
