南澳大利亚首府阿德莱德市市长黄国鑫先生于2002年初访问北京,本刊记者对他进行了采访。黄市长1965年以学生身份到了澳大利亚,并于1970年成为澳籍公民。他于2000年5月在选举中以得票率58%的显著优势当选阿德莱德市市长,是澳大利亚首位华裔首府市长。他的当选体现了当代澳大利亚社会的文化多元性。他所获得的支持率不仅反映出他所具备的胜任该职位的能力,而且显示了澳大利亚人民对华裔为社会所作贡献的明确肯定。
Mr. Huang Guoxin, mayor of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, visited Beijing in early 2002. The journalist interviewed him. Mayor Huang came to Australia as a student in 1965 and became an Australian citizen in 1970. In May 2000, he was elected Mayor of Adelaide with a significant advantage of 58% of the vote. He is the first mayor of Australian ethnic Chinese. His election reflects the cultural diversity of contemporary Australian society. The support he received not only reflects his ability to be competent for the position, but also shows the Australian people’s clear affirmation of the contribution of Chinese descent to society.
