Bering and his expedition F Anyone with a little geographical knowledge knows that there is a Bering Strait; and anyone who knows some historical events knows Beethos J Bering. It is this native Danish Russian explorer and navigator who discovered the Aleutian Islands, as well as the islands of Bering and St Lawrence. In 1724, Bering ordered the death of Emperor Peter the Great to form an expedition to examine whether Asia and North America are connected on land. After a good deal of preparation, Bering made a voyage on July 13, 1728, from Siberian Peninsula, Sri Lanka, and crossed the Bering Strait in August to enter the Arctic Ocean.
