American had a great change between the end of the Civil War and the beginning of the First World War.The industrial North had triumphed over the agrarian South,a society which based on mass labor and mass consumption began to appear.The growth of business and industry widened the gulf between the rich and the poor.America began to be one of the most industrialized nations in the world.That is the beginning of “The Gilded Age” which Mark Twain called,and this is an age full of extremes: of decline and progress,of poverty and wealth.
