At the beginning of the nineties, I was also a deputy editor of the magazine “Management World” at the Development Research Center of the State Council. Among other things, I was in charge of the Beijing Cultural Market Research Institute affiliated to the magazine. . I remember clearly that in the early summer of 1991, under the street lights along the road in Nancheng, Beijing, Li Gang, director of the Beijing Institute of Culture and Tian Yanglin, the deputy director of the Institute of Cultural Studies, took an article entitled “Yangcheng Evening News” The article is to the effect that, although China has 5,000 years of bright culture and history, but up to now no one art auction house. The two of them tentatively asked me: “Can we open an art auction house in China?” I immediately said “OK!”
