Understand the anti-diuretic mechanism of suberogorgin (Sub). Methods: The rats were sensitized with water to receive ig Sub3.16 mg · kg-1. Urine was collected and the total urinary excretion of urine was measured by atomic emission spectrometry. Urinary PGE, plasma PGE, ADH and aldosterone were measured by radioimmunoassay. RESULTS: Sub reduced cumulative urinary output and total sodium and potassium levels (up to 91%, 76%, and 86%, respectively) within 24 h after dosing, an effect that diminished over time and Because rats go to the pituitary and almost completely disappeared, but not adrenal influence. Sub 2h post-dose, Sub increased urinary RGE and plasma PGE and ADH concentrations by 25%, 212% and 538%, respectively, without affecting aldosterone levels. CONCLUSIONS: Sub water retention is due to its contribution to the release of antidiuretic hormone, but not to PGE and aldosterone.
