保山地处云南省西部边疆,位于东经98°44′-99°28′,北纬24°46′-25°39′之间,地形复杂,县城海拔为1653.5m,怒江最低为640m,道人山最高为3655.9m,相对高差3015.9m,平均气温在15.5℃左右,绝对高温32.3℃,绝对低温为-3.5℃,有效积温(≥10℃)在5122.3°;平均雨量968.2mm,集中分布在5～10月间,为年降雨量79%,干湿季十分明显,相对湿度74%,年蒸发量1641.9mm;全年日照时数为2368小时,夏季无台风为害,冬季寒潮难以侵袭,降温缓慢,土层深厚,呈微酸性,十分有利于桉树生长。
