萨摩亚最初为西方社会所熟悉,有赖于两位人类学家所引起的“科学史上最激烈的争论之一”。他们俩眼中的萨摩亚有着天壤之别,使这个偏居于南太平洋的群岛几乎成了一个谜。萨摩亚的真面目究竟如何?2012年春天,我带着这个疑问,从新西兰第一大城市奥克兰飞往萨摩亚的首都阿皮亚。航班在凌晨两点降落,半夜三更进入一个陌生的国家,本来就有点忐忑,加上阿皮亚国际机场空空荡荡,门扉紧闭,更让人感到神秘莫测。
Samoa was first familiar with Western societies and depended on “one of the most fierce controversies in the history of science” caused by two anthropologists. There is a world of difference in the eyes of Samoa, making it almost a mystery for this archipelago that lives in the South Pacific. What exactly is Samoa? In the spring of 2012, I took this question and flew from Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand, to Appiah, the capital of Samoa. The flight landed at two in the morning and entered a strange country in the middle of the night. It was a bit sluggish. With Apia International Airport being empty and the door closed, it was even more mysterious.
